Security Browser

For those students who take the computer-based exam on their own notebook at the FU it is necessary to install the LPLUS Secure Browser. This security browser ensures that during that exam, in addition to the exam questions, candidates cannot access materials and applications other than those enabled by the examiner.

I. System requirements

I.a) Operating system

  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Installing the Secure Browser in virtual machines (e.g. Parallels or VM-Ware) does not work and is furthermore not allowed as per exam regulations.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot offer any help with questions regarding Windows 2000, Windows 98 or Windows ME.

I.b) Minimal hard- and software requirements

  • CPU: 600MHz (Intel or AMD)
  • RAM: 128 MB
  • screen resolution: 800x600
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP with  Service Pack 2

III.c) Recommended hard- and software requirements

  • CPU: 1.5GHz (Intel or AMD)
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP with  Service Pack 3
  • or Microsoft® Windows® Vista
  • screen resolution: 1024x768
  • 12" screen diagonal or more

II. Download and Installation

  1. Please download the most recent version of the installation program for the Secure Browser here:
    "Setup-SecureBrowser.exe" (Version 1.0.3).
  2. Following the download, please start the installation program Setup-SecureBrowser.exe
  3. The installation program will then lead you in a few simple steps through the installation

III. Performance check of the Secure Browsers (please print!)

III.a) After the installation

  1. Please ensure that you have an existing internet connection
  2. Please note down the following key combination: ALT-GR and CTRL and F12. You will need to press these keys simultaneously in order to shut down the Secure Browser after the examination.
  3. Please then start the Secure Browser (you can usually find it under START » PROGRAMS » LPLUS » SECURE BROWSER)
  4. After the start all menues that are familiar in Microsoft Windows will disapper (no start menu, no time display etc.). This is intentional.
  5. A login-mask will then appear on the screen, which will ask for your username and PIN. You will only receive these details at the exam itself. From now on you can close the Secure Browser again by simultaneously pressing the key combination ALT-GR and CTRL and F12.
  6. You will then return to your familiar Windows desktop.

III.b) Problems with the Secure Browser

  • Installing the Secure Browser in virtual machines (e.g. Parallels or VM-Ware) does not work and is furthermore not allowed as per exam regulations.
  • Please deactivate pop-up blockers, adblockers and activate JavaScript in your Internet Explorer. For detailed instructions please refer to the document "LPlus_Browser_Settings.pdf".
  • NEW: Should you receive an error message regarding the screen resolution when installing the file, please download this alternative installer "Setup-SecureBrowser-noResChk.exe".
